Born in 1965 in the city of Maribor, Darja is internationally known by her two participations on the Eurovision Song Contest (in 1995, which is up-to-date the best result ever for Slovenia in the competition, and 99). Darja's new single, the beautiful ballad "Sončen dan", has just won the very traditional song festival Slovenska Popevka in the public voting section. It's her first victory with the audience – in 2010, she had won the jury section.

It's not the first time Sounds European! shows the work of 26-year-old (almost 27) singer Lambe Alabakovski, from the Macedonian city of Bitola. Some months ago, we listened to the great Balkan ballad "Ke te cekam jas". Now, he is back with "Dojdi mi", a song which is a bit more uptempo, and has a very cool chorus.

It's not often that you meet a Russian folk act. Specially Melnitsa, who have been together since 1999, forging a great and prolific music career. Their latest single is called "Kontrabanda", and it is an explosion of sweet sounds, a beautiful voice and a really soothing melody to convey one of the greatest tracks to emerge from Russia this year.
