The Charts Day #91 (part 2)

CHARTS

The highest positions of all the charts are mostly composed of new songs, or hits of the moment. Well, there is always an exception to every rule, and we found the exception to this one in France. Norwegian singer Maria Mena released the beautiful "Homeless" in 2011, but it is this week's #5 in the French charts!

Kenny B was born in Paramaribo, Suriname, in 1961, but has developed his music career in the Netherlands. No wonder that the fresh and sweet "Parijs", his latest single, is being a hit in the European country: the song has arrived to the top of the charts this week!

Russia | Natasha Kors - "Pesok"

Natasha Kors was featured on Sounds European! when she released the fantastic "Detka", and she returns to slay with a fantastic pop song. "Pesok" is powerful, flows gently in the verses and explodes in the chorus. Exactly as we like!

France | Vitaa - "Vivre"

Vitaa is the stage name of Charlotte Gonin, a French soul singer who was born in Mulhouse in 1983. She has just released a new single, named "Vivre". It's a very contagious uptempo pop, with a dance feeling which is quite rare to find in French music. Very cool one!

Italy | Cecilia - "Mornings like this"

BRAND NEW

Cecilia is an Italian harpist and singer born in 1989. She jumps in the wave of Italian people singing in English with "Mornings like this", an infectious pop single which will put you on your feet and dancing right away!

United Kingdom | Florence + The Machine - "Ship to wreck"

Florence + The Machine are a British indie pop and rock band formed in London, led by the extremely talented singer Florence Welch. They are working on their third studio album, named "How big, how blue, how beautiful". From it, we have the new single "Ship to wreck". It is a masterpiece song, with amazing melody and, of course, all the vocal quality of Florence. We couldn't resist: it's our song of the week.

Ukraine | Ani Lorak - "Korabli"

BRAND NEW

Ani Lorak is, without a doubt, one of the biggest divas of Ukraine. Every single of hers leaves us with our jaws dropped to the floor, and "Korabli", her most recent song, is no exception. It is a pop ballad with a very marking chorus and a great beat, and shows that Ani still knows how to give us what we like!

Czech Republic | Slza - "Celibát"

RECENT

Last November, Sounds European! introduced the Czech duo Slza. Their "Lhůta záruční" was absolutely amazing, and so is their new single "Celibat". They show they're masters of great melody with this one: it's very addictive!

United Kingdom | The Shires - "State lines"

No, we didn't make any mistake. You are hearing country pop as made by Americans, but made by British. And it is really amazing! The Shires are Ben Earle and Crissie Gudgin, and they teamed up in 2013. They are releasing their first album this year, entitled "Brave", which is where "State lines" comes from. Simply gorgeous!

Russia | Bazil - "Ai-yai-ya"

RECENT

We now travel to Russia, where we meet the band Bazil. They have just released a very cool single named "Ai-yai-ya". The instrumentals are extremely well done, and the vocals make the song quite catchy and enjoyable. It's as fresh as a pop-rock can be!
