The end of the year is approaching. And on Sounds European!, this can only mean one thing: it's time to look back and remember some of the coolest artists and tracks we've listened during the past 12 months. We reviewed more than 1500 songs posted in 2016 and selected the 50 we consider the best ones – which will be presented to you until December 31st.

Italian stars Simonetta Spiri, Greta, Verdiana and Roberta Pompa are together once again. And let us say: if "L'amore merita" is great, they manage to reach an even higher level with "L'origine". It's a masterpiece of pop, with a stupendous melody and outstanding vocal performances by the four singers – their voices mix beautifully in the chorus. It's surely a song to play on repeat!

Huge meeting of Italian divas to fight for freedom and equality! Meet Simonetta Spiri, from Sassari, and Roberta Pompa, from Brescia, who have joined Greta and Verdiana for the project #LAMOREMERITA. Created by Simonetta along songwriter Luca Sala (one of the authors of the 2012 Festival di Sanremo winner, "Non è l'inferno"), and joined by the other three stars, it means "Love deserves", and it fights for the right to equality of love, in a very important moment for the cause in Italy.

2013 is almost ending. It's time to celebrate and remember the good things this year has brought. Sounds European! looked back on the songs which were presented here during this period – almost 700 – and selected the 40 best ones (in the editors' opinions). Until December 31st, this top 40 will review some of the coolest artists and tracks which were seen here during the year.

Greta Manuzi is one more name to be released into the Italian music market by the reality show Amici – which has presented, before, some of the biggest current names of the country, such as Alessandra Amoroso, Annalisa, Emma, Marco Carta and Valerio Scanu. Her first single, "L'estate", is a very strong pop which reminds a bit the style of Dolcenera.
