Italy | Emma - "La mia città"

EUROVISION

From May 3rd to May 9th, Sounds European! will review the best entries of this year's Eurovision Song Contest, which is taking place in Copenhagen – with semifinals on May 6th and 8th and the final on the 10th.

Emma Marrone is a very known name to SE!: her songs were published here several times before. In Italy, she is currently one of the biggest names of the national music scene. Which means the Italian broadcaster RAI has decided to go big for the 2014 Eurovision, since they chose her to represent the country in Denmark. And "La mia città" is as high quality as everything else we are used to get from her. Its melody is powerful, her voice is amazing and the instrumentals are involving. It's our editors' favorite song of this edition, and that's why it's our song of the week.

Azerbaijan | Dilara Kazimova - "Start a fire"

EUROVISION

From May 3rd to May 9th, Sounds European! will review the best entries of this year's Eurovision Song Contest, which is taking place in Copenhagen – with semifinals on May 6th and 8th and the final on the 10th.

Dilara Kazimova was born in Baku in 1984. She was one of the favourites to win Böyük Səhnə, the Azerbaijani National Final, and eventually stood up with the first place after winning almost all the previous rounds. Her song was presented some days after her victory. It is called "Start a fire" and shows a very sweet and soft arrangement of instruments accompanied perfectly by her brilliant voice.

San Marino | Valentina Monetta - "Maybe (Forse)"

EUROVISION

From May 3rd to May 9th, Sounds European! will review the best entries of this year's Eurovision Song Contest, which is taking place in Copenhagen – with semifinals on May 6th and 8th and the final on the 10th.

Valentina Monetta isn't a new name in the contest: it's her third consecutive participation on ESC. Even though her song this year is much better than her first try – the awkward "The social network song" –, "Maybe (Forse)" is not as epical as last year's "Crisalide (Vola)". It misses a spark which may cost her a qualification for the final.

Armenia | Aram Mp3 - "Not alone"

EUROVISION

From May 3rd to May 9th, Sounds European! will review the best entries of this year's Eurovision Song Contest, which is taking place in Copenhagen – with semifinals on May 6th and 8th and the final on the 10th.

Aram Mp3 has the full package: singer, songwriter, comedian and showman. He was born in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, in 1984, and has had a quite successful career in his country. He was selected internally to fly the Armenian flag in Copenhagen with "Not alone", a very subtle ballad that grows into an explosive mixture of classical instruments and dubstep rhythms. Definitely one not to miss!
