It is one of those rare songs which sound timeless, which could be a worldwide hit in any music era. From our three years making these yearly rankings, this was the time we had the least doubt to select the #1: "Love is a drug" is our song of the year.

But now the waiting is over, and it's being duly paid: her new single "Breaking the rules" is absolutely amazing! It's an explosive pop with catchy and strong melody and great singing. Everything about it is very positive!
Siddharta never gets old! The best band from Slovenia has just released "Nastalo bo", first single from the recently released album "Ultra". It's a very entertaining and captivating uptempo rock with extremely enticing synth elements.
Meet British singer Jones, whose talent has everything to captivate your ears. Her single "Hoops" is a smooth yet very strong song. Its melody builds an amazing ambience, which goes to an even higher level with the help of her amazing voice. The chorus is extremely involving.
Get ready for a shower of groove and melody! Italian band The Kolors's new single, entitled "OK", is much more than its name suggests: it's not only OK, it's great! It has clear references to songs from the '70s and '80s, without losing the modern feeling.
We talked about Dutch artist Chinook when she released the lovely "Go home". Here she comes again with a second and more mature single. "Dancing in flames" is a fantastic pop track, with an explosive chorus and a very infectious melody.
Laurent Amir Khlifa Khedider Haddad is Amir, a French singer who was born in Paris in 1984. Amir's Jewish roots took him to live near Tel Aviv, Israel, since 1992. There, he took part of Kokhav Nolad, a very popular Israeli talent show. He continued his career between Israel and France, ultimately participating in the French version of The Voice, where he finished third. The contrast between Eastern and Western cultures can be fully appreciated in his latest single, "Oasis": the song is a powerful pop with R&B beats and a delightful touch of Oriental sounds.
After shooting to fame with "La meg være ung", Norwegian girl trio SERVED are back with another explosive track. "Psycho" is a perfect summer splash for the cold winter in Europe: a melody which invites to dance your body away!
We just can't get enough of the uniqueness of GJan. Her latest single is another explosive track: "Gossip" keeps her path of gifting us with edgy pop, always mingling some electronic beats in the mix.
Paula Julia Vesala is a Finnish singer who was born in Kärsämäki in 1981. She was part of the very successful and award-winning pop-rock group PMMP. Now on solo career, she has released a new single. "Tequila" is a well-paced ballad which is fully involving. The song is incredibly hypnotizing.
British singer Olly Murs has gone all funky in his latest single. "Stevie knows" is a marvelous pop corker, with a catchy melody and a quite smart pun to laugh a bit on the chorus!
Once again we remeet Macedonian diva Tamara Todevska, who is one of the most prolific pop artists in her country. She has just released "Bash na tebe", a very entertaining single with enticing melody and great instrumentation. Tamara's voice, as usual, is the highest point of the song.
Belgian singer Selah Sue returns to Sounds European! with her characteristic charm. "Fear nothing", her latest single, is a very mysterious indie song with an intense and heartfelt chorus which builds up a fantastic atmosphere.
Romania has shone with R&B beats this year, and here comes another fantastic sample of it. TWO, a duet from Bucharest composed by Mihai Gruia and Sorin Brotnei Stefan, has gathered with Mellina, a singer and producer also from Bucharest, to release "Vinovat". The song exudes power and passion, and it has an irresistible melody!
Italian singer Alessandra Amoroso is starting her international career, releasing versions for her biggest hits in Spanish. But, in between those releases, she has surprised us with a new one in Italian. And what a song! "Stupendo fino a qui" is a very involving track, with one of the most beautiful vocal displays Alessandra has ever gifted her fans.

After more than a year, Sounds European! finally remeets Polish singer Paulla. She has released a new single, entitled "Kocham cie dalej". It's a very groovy pop track with very intense and involving melody, specially in the chorus.
Among many Christmas traditions, a very curious one happens year after year, since the mid-1980s. It's Wham!'s "Last Christmas", which is a usual name among the first positions in several charts around the world. This year, for example, they have already entered the Danish charts, with more than a week until Christmas, at #6.
Bulgarian act Mastilo was featured not so long ago with the great "Prosti mi", when we said that they were a very popular name within the local music market. Well, the charts of this week validate our sayings: the song is currently #5 on the charts!

Every new single Portuguese singer Diogo Piçarra releases, we are more sure he is one of the best artists of his country. His new one, entitled "Sopro", is a masterpiece in all senses. It's vocally amazing, and the instrumentals make a beautiful symphony.
María Parrado is a teen star in Spain. She was the winner of the first edition of the Spanish version for The Voice Kids last year, and she is now presenting her latest album. The first single to emerge from it is "Frío", a very sweet ballad which features Andrés Dvicio (from the popular Spanish band Dvicio).
Every time Sounds European!'s editors listen to a new song by Czech band Support Lesbiens, the certainty grows bigger: they are one of the coolest bands in Europe! Their new single "K.I.D." is another huge example of that. It's one of the most entertaining rock tracks released in 2015, and we are totally in love with it: it's our song of the week. Plus, there's the feature of playing 360º with the camera during the video clip, which is very fun!
During 2015, Sarsa rose as one of the breakthrough acts from Poland. Her latest single not only confirms her success, but also shows another side of her talent: "Zapomnij mi" is a very sweet ballad, filled with the sounds only she could bring us.
Fleur East is a British singer who was born in Walthamstow in 1987. She got famous after taking part of The X Factor in 2005 as a member of Addictiv Ladies. On a solo career since 2012, she was on a break from releasing singles as a lead artist for some years, until "Sax" was released. And what a comeback! It is pop at its best. It's powerful, intense, entertaining and infectious.
Norwegian singer Maria Mena was with us in 2013 with "I always liked that", so we were very happy to see her back with a new single! "I don't wanna see you with her" is a heartfelt ballad which follows the lovely atmosphere Maria creates in all of her songs.
Tatiana Kotova is a Russian singer born in 1985 who found fame after being part of one of the formations of VIA Gra. Her latest solo single is the captivating "Ya budu silney", a song which mixes the sensuality of Russian pop with electronic beats.
Every time we meet Danish group Scarlet Pleasure, there's the certainty of a groove shower to come. And once again, we weren't disappointed with their new single "Wanna know". Emil, Joachim and Alexander know how to make R&B work into pop songs as few artists in Europe!
Sonia Stein was born in Germany, lived in Warsaw, New York and Boston, but is currently based in London. Her sounds are extremely haunting, as proved by her first single: "Baggage" brings contemporary indie sounds to a very heartfelt song.
We now remeet Antonio José, the voice of Spain, with his new release. "El arte de vivir" is a beautiful ballad which displays the best of Antonio's voice. It has that Latin heat which we usually find delightful in Spanish ballads.

Let's remeet Norwegian boyband Suite 16, which is releasing a new single. "Who I wanna be" is a cute ballad which displays a great vocal harmony among the boys. All the voices are beautiful, and they mix very well together. The song's melody is extremely cute.
Dutch pop princess Miss Montreal is finally back! "Love you now" is her comeback single, and it sounds as all you can expect from her: a catchy and very nice melody which has a lovely oldie feeling to it. Excelent return!
Agir is a singer and composer from Portugal. He has just released a great single (with one of those very fun 360º videoclips) entitled "Como ela é bela". It's a ballad with a lot of groove and personality. The instrumentals help building a very sweet ambience to the track.
Sanna Stuardo is a Swedish singer hailing from Stockholm. Her fifth single is titled "Run", the quintessential definition of Swedish pop: a great melody in the verses and a fantastic chorus adding to a memorable track! Marvin Dupré is a French actor and singer born in Paris in 1991 who has been in the entertainment business since he was very young. His latest single surely displays all his talent: "Regarde-les" is a powerful and enticing pop-rock track with a beautiful instrumentation.
Giannis Ploutarchos (sometimes written Yannis, and Ploutarhos) is one of the most influential singers of the current Greek music scene. He was born in Mavrogia in 1970. His new single "Mia kalispera" is a shower of traditional pop from Greece. The instrumentation and the singing can surely take you in a trip to his country. Very entertaining!
We had presented Maria Hazell back this April, when she released the daring "Killing all my darlings". Now, she's back with a totally different sound: "Golden boy" is a haunting and very interesting mixture of pop and contemporary sounds. It will surely remain in your head!
Mart Babayan is a Russian singer who was born in Grozny in 1986. He has gathered with Anna Galkina, born in Moscow in 1981, to release the super entertaining "Sumasshedshiye". It's impossible to listen to their single without having fun both dancing to the song and watching the video clip.
In January, Spanish band Morrigans made a huge first impression on us with the stupendous "Se incomprendido". Now, we remeet them with their new single "Salitre" for a huge second impression. It's a great light rock track with a lot of feeling. Its very involving melody mixes perfectly with the easygoing vocals.
Theoharis Ioannidis was born in Düsseldorf, Germany, in 1984. He grew up among Germany, Greece and the United States, and this mixture may be the reason for the big blending of styles in his music: "Min tolmiseis" blends rock power and Greek sounds perfectly, composing a very intense track!
Hasan Shah, born Syed Hasan Abbas Shah, is a 21-year-old Danish singer from Brøndby. He has gathered with Danish rapper Gilli, born Kian Rosenberg Larsson, to release one of the biggest current hits of Denmark. "Tyveri" is a light pop track filled with groove. Impossible not to get involved by its melody!
Elle Exxe is a British singer hailing from Edinburgh. What she's bringing us is a kind of pop that was missing within the British music market. "Home with you" is an intense and absolutely mind-blowing pop corker. You'll have it hard to get out of its wave!
German-born singer Antonis Remos is a hit in his beloved Greece. Despite his song "Lene" was released in July, it remains among the highest positions of the local charts: this week, he is at #4!

Silbermond is a German band formed in the city of Bautzen in 1998. They quickly became one of the biggest names in the country, having all of their albums being a top 5 success in the local charts. They have made a comeback to music after a three-year hiatus with "Leichtes gepäck", a soft and very interesting rock song.
Lukas Graham are quickly becoming one of the most important names of the Danish music scene. Every single they release becomes a hit and starts charting quite well in Denmark – and, little by little, in neighboring nations, too. It's the case of "7 years", a beautiful ballad which is already present in the Austrian, Danish, Finnish, German, Norwegian and Swedish charts. And we are not surprised at all with its success: it's such a great song!

Born in Stockholm, Swedish singer Vanessa Falk has not long ago released her latest single. "Burn" is a delicious taste of Swedish pop: it is very catchy and simple, yet it has an oldie feeling attached which makes it super interesting. It's one you won't be able to stop listening to, because the same happened to us: it became our song of the week!
Italian superstar Laura Pausini has just released a video for the song which gives name to her new album. "Simili" is an anthemic pop, with intense and involving melody and Laura's beautiful voice being as special as it always is. Pop as only Laura Pausini can make. Every new single by Emmanuel Moire is simply a confirmation of how big a talent he has. His latest release is "Tout le monde", a touching and very intimate ballad. The video clip which goes along the single is also quite intense.
After the huge success she has achieved with "Play my drum", Sounds European! remeets new Norwegian star Sandra Lyng with her current single. "Night after night" is another extremely entertaining pop song by Sandra. It surely feels like this is on the way of being another huge hit for her!
No artist in Ukraine makes music the way Elka does. Her songs are very unique in style, and they usually present melodies which are quite uncommon for the region. Her new single, entitled "Greyu schast'ye", is another example of that. We could easily qualify it as an indie pop track – and let's be fair, that's not an adjective we can often use for Ukrainian music.
Danish singer Fallulah returns to Sounds European! with a fantastic new single. "Sorrow is a shadow" is a captivating indie pop which has a very hypnotic melody and a sweet and equally attractive chorus.

This time, he's gathered with Isaura Santos, singer and songwriter who was born in Gouveia, to release "Meu é teu". It's a touching ballad with beautiful vocal harmony and involving melody.
Romanian singer Lora returns to our site with a fantastic ballad. "Ne împotrivim", her latest single, is a great pop ballad, with intense R&B beats in the chorus, which proves that Romanians have become masters in producing these kind of songs!
Swedish singer and media personality Danny Saucedo was featured on Sounds European! quite some time ago, upon the release of "Todo el mundo (Dancing in the streets)". Now, he is back with us for a much more intimate approach: "Så som i himlen" is a deep and intense pop ballad which surely will capture you with its atmosphere!

Almost two years after her first feature on Sounds European!, with "Te-am iubit", Romanian singer Brighi is back with a mind-blowing track. "Invizibila" is a ballad which plays with extremes: the verses sound fragile, while the chorus explodes with R&B beats. A fantastic single!
Tamara is a big name in the Spanish music scene. Her career started in 1999, and since then she has reached good recognition in her country and also in some nations of Latin America. Her new release "Si tú quiseiras" has the quality to keep her success going: it's an endearing uptempo pop with very catchy melody and powerful singing.
Christian Vium, Mikkel Dyrehave Hansen, Emil Rothmann, Anders Søndergaard and Christoffer Møller Østergaard are Go Go Berlin, a Danish alternative rock band established in 2010 in Silkeborg. Their mixture of classic and modern rock makes of their music a very unique jewel. Their latest single is "Kids", a song which proves their influences and their greatness!
Ana Free is the stage name of Ana Gomes Ferreira, a popular Portuguese singer born in 1987 in Cascais. Her latest single features the Latin beauty of Debi Nova, an emerging singer from Costa Rica: "Say it to me" is all the freshness and sensuality we missed in Portuguese pop!
Ilias Vrettos is a Greek singer who was born in Athens. He has just released "Otan me koitas", a single which takes Greek pop to its best qualities. It's involving, charming and captivating. Its melody is catchy, and allows Ilias's great voice to shine.
French singer Louane keeps shining with every new single. Her most recent one is "Rester seule", a very delicate and tender song with a magnific vocal performance.
We travel to Italy to remeet one of the country's divas, Malika Ayane. "Tempesta" is her current single, and it's surely a delightful one. The light and entertaining melody and totally inviting to dance along. And Malika's voice is just the perfect match to it.
When we presented them last Saturday with "10.000 luchtballonnen", we said that Belgian trio K3 was huge in Belgium. And we didn't lie at all: after debuting at the top of the local charts seven days ago, this week they are the #2!
It's finally time for another interview on Sounds European!. We are very happy to be able to talk to one of our favorite artists from Portugal. His music is great, and so was our conversation with him. These are our 10 questions for Diogo Piçarra:
Sounds European!: You started appearing to the general public in 2012, when you won Ídolos (the Portuguese version for Idols). But tell us a bit about before that. How did your relationship with music start? Who were your childhood idols? What do you believe they might have influenced your musical style?
Diogo Piçarra: Long before 2015, I had never had any connection with music, other than the albums by Linkin Park and Backstreet Boys which were mingled on the shelf. From that year on, the curiosity to learn how to play an instrument was stronger, and to this day music has never left my life any longer. However, the true idols came later when I started discovering music which was not on the radios, as Ornatos Violeta and Yellow W Van – who ended up, indeed, influencing my writing in Portuguese.
SE!: Now, let's talk about Ídolos. How does it feel, for an artist, to have their work judged by the audience, without knowing what outcome to expect? What did you learn from the experience of taking part in this show? And how was it like to win it?
DP: It's a bittersweet feeling. The anxiety kills us because we want our work quickly out there. And at the same time, fear is so big that we could give up at any time. But there is no better feeling than this anxiety of finally having our words in the ears of people. With Ídolos, you really learn to deal with criticism, with fanaticism, with rejection, with every good and bad thing the music universe has. Winning it was also a bittersweet feeling, because you finally have the recognition, but also the pressure and "all" eyes on you.
SE!: You are an artist who interacts a lot with your fans, specially through social networks. How is your relationship with the audience? Do you believe that artists' being closer to their followers through Internet is the future for the art world?
DP: My relationship with the audience has always been something natural and inherent in myself. It's impossible to ignore someone who supports us, who does anything for us, who waits hours in line just for a hug or who spends the days listening to us. It really touches me, and the only way to be able to give something back is through social networks. At least this is my point of view. There are other artists who don't see it the same way and prefer having a distance, to keep some mystery and privacy – which is also fair!
SE!: Your numbers are impressive, especially among Portuguese artists. You've already reached, for example, on YouTube (between your official and VEVO channels), around 20 million views. The amount of followers on your Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts is also quite large. All of this, for an artist who is still in, let's say, early stages of career. How do you feel about such expressive achievements?
DP: That's what I ask myself every day! I have felt the same way long before the album was released. I wondered how it was possible not even to have an original work released – an album, a single or anything – and to have so many followers.
SE!: We really like your work. We see, in your songs, features which are very rare in the Portuguese pop scene. How do you see your own work? How would you define your genre and, further, what your music offers?
DP: I really appreciate the description, because that's what I've always tried to do: something different from what Portugal has, but that already existed abroad. Even though I consider myself a pop singer and songwriter, I have influences from many other styles, such as electronic music, hip hop and indie. And in my head, all these styles mingle and create what my genre is.

SE!: We feel your music sounds more international, more connected with worldwide trends, than the average of Portuguese artists. Thinking about that, and the fact that you've already studied at London Music School, we wonder: Is it in your plans, maybe, to expand your career to an international path, with lyrics in English?
DP: I've been asked this question many times, and believe: I myself also think of it. In fact, I have some ideas in English. But, on the other hand, at the moment, Portuguese music comes as a priority. There's so much I want to do in Portuguese! In other words, I want to enrich my country with lyrics and music in our language.
SE!: Your first album, "Espelho", was very well received. How was the process of recording it? And how would you describe the music in it?
DP: The album "Espelho" is a summary of my last three years. So, the music in it is an amalgamation of everything I have written, listened and lived during that time. I've always recorded and produced the ideas on my computer, but thanks to Fred Ferreira, they got another life. For about three months, we were stuck in the studio realizing how to make all those ideas sound fresh, different and in Portuguese.
SE!: If you could choose anyone, who would be some Portuguese and international artists you'd like to collaborate with?
DP: I'd love to work with artists – who have also been getting their deserved recognition – such as Agir, Dengaz, Jimmy P or D.A.M.A. We've already got to meet each other, so now it's only a matter of going to the studios. International artists would be Ed Sheeran, Drake, One Direction or Justin Bieber, because I love and respect their work immensely.
SE!: What are your professional projects for the near future? What can your fans expect?
DP: In the near future, they can expect the reissuing of my album "Espelho" with a special DVD which was filmed live and gave me great pleasure to record. They can also expect big concerts for 2016, and I hope to gift you with new music for the new year, because that's why I'm here!
SE!: We would like to post a song of yours to close this interview. What is your favorite song of yourself, and why?
DP: I like them all, of course! But I would choose "Verdadeiro", because it is a summary of my life, my state of mind and my attitude towards life and my art.
